Paper Roll Robot Craft
Looking for a fun robot craft that uses supplies you probably already have at home?
This Robot Toilet Paper Roll Craft is one of those simple activities kids get excited about from start to finish. Using recycled cardboard tubes, a few colorful craft supplies, and a little imagination, kids can create their very own robot friend.
I love crafts like this because they’re inexpensive, easy to set up, and give kids plenty of room to be creative. No two robots ever turn out exactly the same! Once the crafting is done, my kids always end up using their robots for pretend play and storytelling long after the glue has dried.
Whether you’re looking for a rainy day activity, a recycling craft, or a fun robot-themed project, this toilet paper roll robot is a great choice for kids of all ages.

Supplies Needed To Make Your Toilet Paper Roll Robot
Most of these supplies are things you may already have tucked away in your craft cabinet. If not, everything can easily be found at a craft store or even your local Dollar Tree. Here’s what you’ll need to create your own toilet paper roll robot:
- Toilet Paper Rolls, you can also purchase craft rolls or cut paper towel rolls down to size
- Pipe cleaners in light purple, dark purple, and dark blue
- Mini Pom Poms
- Mini Buttons
- Medium Pom Poms
- Free Eyeball template or googly eyes
- Blue, yellow, and white construction paper or cardstock.
NOTE: You don’t have to use the same colors of pipe cleaners and cardstock as me. Feel free to use a rainbow of colors and let your kids get creative with their color choices. This craft is an easy way to give them a model of what they can look like and then watch them do their thing. The robots don’t have to be perfect and you might find that they create something super cool. Just watch them create and the end result will be a surprise.

How to Make a Paper Roll Robot:
Ready to build your robot? Grab your supplies and follow these simple steps. Don’t worry if your child’s robot doesn’t look exactly like ours—the best part is watching them create their own unique design.
Step One:
- Begin by wrapping your toilet paper tubes in aluminum foil.
- Cut your square belly pieces out of blue construction paper. Cut your rectangle belly piece out of yellow construction paper.

Step Two:
- Add small pom poms to the yellow piece and buttons to the square piece. I attached it with liquid glue, but you can also use a hot glue gun.
- Attach two blue pipe cleaners as the arms. I twisted mine a little to look squiggly. Hot glue works best here! (but only Adults should use it)
- Glue a pom pom on either side of the robot’s head to be its “gears”

Step Three:
- Cut out a thin piece of white paper and draw a grid-like pattern on it with a Sharpie marker to act as the mouth.
- Attach another piece of pipe cleaner to the top of the robot head with a pom pom on top. This is the robot’s antennae.
Note: Use the square and rectangle belly pieces interchangeably and feel free to decorate it with buttons and pom poms however you see fit. You can also customize your robots with colors other than the ones I chose.
